We Have a Debt Exclusion Vote Date!

The Select Board recently agreed on important dates related to the LHS Building Project:

• Special Town Meeting will convene on November 3th and 4th. Town Meeting members will be asked to authorize the funding of the project contingent on the town-wide vote. This vote requires a two-thirds majority.

• Then, voters will be asked to approve a debt exclusion in order for the town to raise property tax revenue to fund the project. This town-wide vote is scheduled for Monday, December 8th! This is the crucial election in which voters will decide whether the project moves forward or not. This vote requires a simple majority.

Yes4Lex will be busily working toward the Dec. 8th town-wide vote. We need you and everyone you know to come out and vote YES!

The Yes4Lex campaign is mobilizing ahead of the December 8th vote to inform voters about the high school project and ensure voter turnout. We are looking for volunteers who can canvass for the campaign beginning in the fall - no experience or “campaigning” necessary, just box-ticking. It’s a great way to generate support for this critical vote. Join us for a few hours to get out the vote! LHS Project Meeting Schedule Update

Town staff and the design team are currently working on a finalized detailed cost estimate for the LHS project. Due to the volume and detailed nature of the plans, the cost-estimating team needs more time for this work. This additional time requires an adjusted schedule for several meetings that follow completion of the new cost estimate. The new meeting times are listed below (or see Dr. Hackett’s communication on the revised meeting schedule):

• July 31, 6:00 pm - Permanent Building Committee (PBC): Agenda and Zoom link
  This meeting will include the first presentation of the new LHS project cost estimates.

• August 4, 12:00 pm - School Building Committee

• August 7, 6:00 pm - Permanent Building Committee

• August 11, 12:00 pm - School Building Committee

• August 13, 6:30 pm - Community Forum

• August 18, 12:00 pm - School Building Committee
  At this meeting the SBC will consider a vote to accept the Schematic Design submission that will be sent to the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA).

All of these meetings are open to the public and can be attended in person or remotely via Zoom. All agendas, which include location and Zoom details, are posted on the SBC Meetings page in advance. Meetings are recorded for future viewing for anyone interested but unable to attend.
